Placemat rug

I decided my sewing area needed a rug at the door, and I wanted it to be bright and cute. (Insert hubby rolling his eyes) Yes, I know rugs get stepped on, but they can look nice while doing so! I picked up six of these round placemats at Walmart. They sort of have a wicker feel to them.

I know what you are thinking...didn't she just make placemats, so why is she buying some now?! Well deary, here is the thing...these mats aren't for my table, I needed them to make a rug. I can use fabric to make my own placemats, but I can't use fabric for a rug. See? Makes perfect sense. And a very fun rug they make if I do say so myself!

Want one? Start by spray painting them the colors of your choice.

Arrange them to fit your fancy, and dab a bit of hot glue in between to hold them in place while you are working on them.

Next use the pokey instrument of your choice to make holes to poke your ribbon through.

Tie cute ribbon where ever they overlap. Dab fray check on your ribbon, and generously hot glue all overlapping pieces. Ta-da!

I think it looks like giant confetti.

My original idea was to do this for the little lady's room, and try this smaller version first. I might still do a big one for her room, but I would need to find softer mats. These are a bit too scratchy for little arms and knees.
