Coziness for $10 or less...

It's almost Thanksgiving people! This is a big news flash to me actually. With all the chaos of moving, I've not done a single solitary piece of Fall decorating, much less paid any attention to a small thing like a calender! I have, however, noticed it's chilly outside. I also noticed I forgot to pack long sleeves before sending all my belongings off to temporary storage. That, is a MAJOR bummer, I assure you, and I do not recommend anyone making that unintelligent mistake. Some warm winter coziness is definitively in order, on a budget of course! I recommend...

  1. Over the knee cable knit socks from Kohls. On sale for $7.00. Even on a tall girl like me, they still went over the knee, and are sooooo comfy! They are my new favorite boot socks!

     2.   Coffee is wonderful all year, but it is absolutely essential in the winter. I tried this creamer the other day, probably shouldn't have. It makes coffee taste like fancy fall party, even it its an off-brand, not even sure it's actually coffee brand.

      3.  Cute soft slippers are must, cold floors are ick! Walmart $9.97.

Women's Soffee Fair Isle Ballerina Slippers
     4.  Lotion. Make sure it smells nice. Flaky, cracked skin is not cute. Target $8.99

Burt's Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme

     5.  Red beans and rice. Best meal ever, super cheap, fairly healthy. Make sure to go heavy on the Cajun seasoning!

Hope you are enjoying your Fall. Thanks for being a great bunch, blogging would be no fun without readers! =)

Friday Favorites

    1. This blazer which I managed to find for a ridiculously low price and purchased in both black and khaki. (In store is always cheaper than online for some odd reason) I do adore a good deal.

Apt. 9 Peplum Jacket

      2. This little saying, which I pretty much just need to stamp on my forehead.

Before you act

      3. This recipe which I found on Pinterest...and made...and ate way too much of. Proceed at your own risk.

No Bake: Oreos, mini Reeses cups, chocolate pudding, cool whip, and peanut butter. aka heaven.

      4. The fact that my three year old walked up to me with her night gown wrapped around her waist and announced..."Mamma, if you cut the sleeves off of this you can make me a skirt!"...truly a girl after my own heart. Of course, I might not think its so cute when she's about 5 years older, and starts chopping up her clothes without asking! Hmm...maybe I should be more careful about which projects of mine she watches me do!

     5.  This little girls dress. Too cute. A little past my sewing skill level, but something to aspire too.

Friday Favorites - Chiffon

I am so glad its Friday its not even funny! This has been the longest week ever...a baby with two teeth coming in at one time, and the grey-est, gloomiest weather every day for like the last month...or so it seems. If you were wondering about the lack of posting this week...there ya go, that's why. Grey lighting and grouchy babies don't do a whole lot for the productivity level around here.
So, lets move on to something a little more cheerful...like chiffon! I've always been a knit girl...but I'm venturing more and more into the world of wovens, and chiffon is definitely my favorite among woven fabric. It floats, its feminine, and its elegant. Once you get the hang of it, its actually pretty easy to work with too. Here  is some chiffon loveliness gleaned from my Pinterest boards.

Of course, there is also these two, I posted here, using chiffon.

I'm working on some chiffon tops for my shop, and if the weather ever clears up...I might actually manage to get a some pictures and tutorials up for them.
Hope you have a happy, sunny weekend!

Friday Favorites - Cobalt Blue

Is it OK if I have two color obsessions going on at one time? I already told you about my orange obsession, but I am so loving cobalt blue these days too. I can't decide which one I like more, and I've been wearing lots of both lately.

cobalt blue brushstrokes

Cobalt is one of those colors, that I think just looks classy. It's kind of like black...everything always looks a tad fancier in black. I think cobalt is like the daytime version of black.

I'm seeing cobalt around a lot lately paired with other shades of blue. I love the how these colors look together!

I adore this dress, although $395 is a tad past my budget for one dress. I really like the cobalt against that neutral khaki color. I'm predicting you'll see something with those two colors soon in posts to come!

Here are two recent posts I did using cobalt lately, if you missed seeing them before.

What do you think about cobalt blue? Have a happy weekend!

Friday Favorites - Designs I'm liking lately

Well, I promised a skirt tutorial this week, but I fibbed. I've had a teething baby this week, who is not at all happy about life, so a few things I had planned to do had to go by the wayside. It will be here next week though for sure. In the mean time, I thought I'd show you a few styles I've seen around lately that I am just dying to try. Your thoughts and opinions are always welcomed and appreciated.
1.) Layered sheers. I love the floaty, light look these layers have.

2.) Kimono Sleeve Maxi. This looks rediculously comfortable to wear, not to mention ridiculously easy to make!

3.) Using dye to create color blocks. This could be so fun, imagine all the color combinations you could have!

4.) Striped Maxi dress. I love.

5.) Tulip skirts. I like the variety from just a plain high/low hemline.

6.) Jumpsuits. Ok, so this one I'm on the fence about. I've always thought these were just the most awful things ever...but lately I've seen some that I think actually look pretty decent. I just would think that the waist would be problematic...either too low, so the pants would be slouchy, or too high, so the top would be an unflattering bubble. Anybody have any experiences or thoughts on these?

Well anyway, as you can see, the idea train just keeps chugging around here. That's the fun part though, trying something new, and learning as you go. Wouldn't it be boring to do the same thing over and over?! Hope you have a happy weekend!

Friday Favorites - The Color Orange.

Rust

Well it's about that time again, the time when I get a new color obsession. Meet the color orange.

This color pallet, is just perfect. In fact, I'm wearing a shirt right now that has these exact colors, and it is fantastic. I love the natural, rustic tones of these colors together.

perfect combinations

This dress positively makes me want to go by bolts and bolts of orange chiffon, and sew all sorts of long flowy dresses with it.
