You can always rely on some good decorating inspiration popping out at you when you browse through the Pottery Barn magazine or website. Take these deer for example.
I like rustic decor, so I thought these were just lovely. They would be lovelier still, if I could make them myself! I gathered up sticks, hot glue and spray paint and gave it a go.
They didn't turn out too bad if I do say so! Making these is pretty simple, and kind of kid friendly too...except for the hot glue and paint part that is.
You need four sticks the same length for legs, one for the body, little pieces for the neck and head, and two forked pieces for antlers.
I glued my legs on first. (haha that sounds funny, I didn't actually glue MY legs...)
When the legs were done, I glued the neck on. I cut it at a slant at the bottom so it wouldn't stick straight up in the air.
Next on went on the antlers, and then the paint. I spray painted white, rather than silver, because I'm partial to all things white.
Really, you couldn't ask for an easier Christmas decoration....and its FREE! Unless of course you live in the dessert and have no sticks...in which case I feel very sad for you. I made a larger one too, but alas, he has already met with disaster. I made him with sticks that were too fat and heavy for the glue. (and I'm clumsy and knocked his legs off with my foot, but that's besides the point)
You can do lots do things with sticks. I made this star last year with sticks, wire, paint and a string of berries.
And you thought sticks were only good for starting fires and playing fetch with your dog! (not that I would know. My dog's not that smart, but my two year old does it great!)
So, have you entered my giveaway yet?? Well why not?! You best get moving little lady, it ends in five days! Go here, pronto!
